Five Minute Friday – Dance

Five Minute Friday

Every Friday for 5 minutes members of the blogging community writes on a subject.

We set a timer and just write whatever comes to mind. We don’t worry about grammar, punctuation and whether is looks right or not. We just write because it’s what we love to do.

5 minutes. No proof-reading. No going back to edit. Just write.

Todays subject is Dance.

Start:

It took me completely by surprise. For days now she’d been bouncing up and down as though she wanted to launch herself into the air and land on her knees. And when the moment happened I almost didn’t register it. I probably wouldn’t have even taken notice except that she was dancing.

Right there, in the middle of her toys with Elmo playing on the screen. She was on her knees and shaking her little diaper clad behind for all it was worth. Clapping and laughing, her eyes just dancing with baby happiness and completely unaware of how amazing she is. Not knowing that the very sight of her like this is making it hard for Mommie to breath properly and that her mothers view of the world at this moment is wavering slightly with prideful tears.

I glance at the screen and smile. At this very moment I love Elmo.

End.

Five Minute Friday – See

Every Friday for 5 minutes the blogging community writes on a subject.

We set a timer and just write whatever comes to mind. We don’t worry about grammar, punctuation and whether is looks right or not. We just write because it’s what we love to do.

Start:

I strain to reach, stretching my arm until I feel like it’s going to pull out of it’s socket. My face is mashed up against the wooden frame and I’m starting to lose blood flow to that side. With a huff of frustration I sit back up and glower at the futon frame as thought it’s purposely keeping me from reaching you. I get down low and look again underneath and there you are with your vacant stare and your vapid smile and I growl to myself.

She was playing with you happily and managed to throw you under there. Sometimes I wish she wasn’t so physical and that she had skipped this learning to throw phase. I figured it would be easy enough to get you out once she was down for her nap. And now there you are taunting me from the shadowy confines and she’s starting to stir. Oh the frustration of seeing you and not being able to grab you.

This is an aspect of motherhood I hadn’t expected.
